Seza Soylucicek – Turkey

by on November 4th, 2009

I’m a girl (if you haven’t noticed already). And by law, I’m allowed to “aww” and “eek” at cute, furry, fluffy things. Seza Soyluçiçek is a graphic designer based in Turkey and her portfolio website definitely scored high on the “aww” factor.

Pros:

  • Cute squirrels that interact with the user’s mouse. On the main page where you have to choose a language, acorns can hit the squirrel if the user isn’t careful with where they’re pointing at.
  • The ability to toggle between Turkish and English.
  • The woodland theme transcends through the whole website– the “loading” symbol is a tree.
  • Impressive portfolio– includes pieces of illustration, multimedia, packaging, and print.
  • At first I thought that maybe this “cutesy” theme of the website wasn’t a good idea for a portfolio website, but after looking at her previous work, it seems like most of the jobs she’s done has been for children- so I guess I’ll let her pass.

Cons:

  • No descriptions on her portfolio pieces.

GTI Project by Volkswagon – England

by on November 3rd, 2009

I may be 6 months late in posting this, but I couldn’t leave the GTI Project website out of this website’s showcase. Tribal DDB London and Volkswagon did a great job of creating a virtual experience where the user assumes the identity of GTI engineer, Karl Luhr, to gain access into the GTI engineering labs. Once inside the labs, you will gain access to read about the car’s features– but best of all, you get test drive a model of the GTI around track.

Pros:

  • During the test drive, if you flip off the track, you can see an actual engineer pick up the car and put it back on the track.
  • I liked the grainy camera angles throughout the site. It added to the “top secret” feel.
  • Great overall experience

Cons:

  • It sometimes took a while for the engineer to put my car back on the track. Since I was racing for the best time, my main concern wasn’t to watch a video of someone (even though it was a nice touch).
  • It took my computer a long time for the racing game to load.
